DealsDirect.com.au to be next Amazon?
DealsDirect.com.au, Australia’s largest online department store and a site with a very large and growing turnover, is now expanding their category offering into mainstream product.
Previously, oo.com.au seemed to be the only large online seller of this type offering a good selection of ‘name brand’ products but now DealsDirect has begun moving in to that territory as well.
Paul Greenberg announced that DealsDirect is now going to start selling wine and other alcoholic drinks after receiving the appropriate license.
“We want to be the Australian Amazon,” says Greenberg, “and we are looking at major categories like books, movies and music. In essence, our model is changing from an overstock model to a long tail model.”
So, DealsDirect continues to accelerate their growth and build their high value product offering to a growing consumer base while the big box Australian bricks and mortar retailers remain seemingly oblivious to the opportunities they would online as well.
With books, movies and music, DealsDirect will essentially become more like a Big W or Target, online and guess who will have to play catchup?!
