A Top 100 Australian Blogger?

Today I noticed a new link to my blog, from Blogpond. It mentioned my blog as a new entrant in the list of Top 100 Australian Blogs.

I guess when I started writing about eBay, eCommerce, online classifieds and other topics that I could end up with a few subscribers to my RSS feed, and a few regular email readers, so to appear in this Top 100 list is pretty cool.

It got me thinking about about my blog though, and how I treat it. Do I want it to be big? Do I want it to be profitable? What do I want to give to readers when they visit?

I could put in a lot more work, and probably build up more significant traffic. I know I have a LOT more to say regarding my core topics.

But I haven’t posted much recently, even though I have had plenty of topics to write about. What holds me back from taking my blog to the next level?

Simply, I hesitate, and worry.

  1. Sometimes, I don’t want to ‘name names’ in the industry (although there is plenty of people and business I could write about).
  2. Sometimes a little voice in my head says ‘Don’t publish that, it could give an edge to your competitors!’.
  3. Sometimes I think, ‘hey, who really gets much out of this blog anyway?’

I probably don’t want to go down the industry gossip route, but factual news is fine, so I can work at drawing a clear line between insider gossip and fact. Point 1 taken care of.

eBay and online sales is a massive market. There is plenty of room for everyone. The experience I have had over the past number of years in eBay sales, sales automation, distribution, importing, ecommerce design etc puts me in a good position to be able to educate sellers so we all profit. If a few of my competitors learn a few things or two, then that shouldn’t be so bad.

Hell, some might even want to pay my business for consulting. If that is you, contact us.

And for point 3, well, if you do enjoy my writings, comment on them and let me know!
