Have You Joined The eBay Conga Line?
eBay Australia has a conga line and wants you to be part of it! Its true, you can even upload your face, and when you appear (dancing merrily along behind and in front of other strangers) people can mouse over you and see who you are.
Sounds a little crazy, but eBay actually have some stats to bank up their quest to build excitement.
A survey that eBay commissioned showed that:
for 94% of Australians it’s all about winning – particularly the exciting, positive physical and mental effects experienced when you win.
eBay needs to focus on their core buyer experience, that of auctions. Consumers do like auctions, and we have seen in the past (much less often now though) prices for some of our items reaching great levels because of some enthusiastic last minute bidding.
They continue:
more than half (56%) of Australians feel they do not have enough excitement in their lives, and going on holiday (67%) and bidding in an online auction (64%) are the two most popular means of finding the missing excitement.
The survey also found the excitement of bidding on eBay ranks alongside watching the Melbourne Cup and seeing your favourite team play in a final.
Wow. I didn’t think bidding on eBay would come close to cheering on the Melbourne Cup Winner. But surveys are never wrong.
I hope it all works. We are someone who still sell with the 99c auction, no reserve model and we need buyer participation and enthusiasm to remain in business.
