Just because you sell it…

I went fishing the other weekend.

Took one of our new combos (snapper rod and reel – great value!) and some soft plastics etc. Also took a new ‘snapper snatcher‘ to try out, they have been selling like hotcakes.

I like fishing. I grew up as a kid fishing in South Australia, near Port Lincoln. Great fishing over there. Whiting, crab, salmon, tuna, snapper and more. We typically fished for whiting, great eating.

In Victoria though, it is now Snapper season. It is just assumed that when you ask someone ‘if they are going out on the weekend’ that it is to fish for snapper.

So, with an invite from a friend I got up at 1:50am on Saturday morning, drove to my mates place, and went down to Patterson Lakes boat ramps to go fishing (for snapper of course).

So did about 1,000 other people. The car park was nearly full at 3:15 am when we got there. Crikey. This isn’t the sort of fishing I was used to…

Anyway, we got the boat out and headed out to a GPS mark. Settling in on the calm morning water we had a coffee after our lines were baited up and we waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Then we moved closer to some other boats.

And waited some more.

We had a chat for a while, turned the radio on (which, much to my horror announced that daylight savings started the following morning, so we lost an hours sleep!), and waited some more.

In the end we came back in at 9.30am, with nothing.

hmmm… just because I sell fishing tackle ceertainly doesn’t mean the fishing Gods will treat me any different!
